How to Dress

  • Dress in layers.
  • Wear a thermal base layer.
  • Outer layers should be well insulated and protect you from both water and wind.
  • Do not wear jeans!
  • Wool and polyester/fleece blends are warmer and drier than cotton.
  • Socks should be a wool/polyester blend and not be too bulky.
  • Only wear one pair of socks.
  • Wear a helmet or warm hat to keep your head warm.
  • Gloves or mittens are important. A nylon or leather outer shell will help keep your hands dry and warm.
  • Goggles are your best bet to protect your eyes, but a good pair of sunglasses will do on a sunny day.
  • Protect yourself from the sun with sun screen in the spring when the temperatures rise.
